Justin de Jager/Threading Theater (2023)

Brothrs (2023)

Brothers is a performance created by Threading Theatre, a dance company formed by Justin de Jager, Sem Deliveyne and Andreas Tegnander. ‘Brothers’ is Inspired by their close bond and experience as younger brothers – an emotional journey of support, competition, intimacy and collaboration. ’Brothers’ focuses deeper on the theme of brotherhood: feelings like entanglement, competition, struggle, intimacy, connection and cooperation are expressed through a collective physicality.

The piece is embodied by the movement concept of threading, which originates from breakdance. In a thread, they create a physical opening by connecting multiple body parts together and continuing with another body part. This way, the brothers string limbs together in all sorts of different ways – flowing in sync, but also struggling. They form a sequence of movement that pulls the audience into a hypnotic trance.
